C2C Day 9 - July 22 - Reeth to Richmond - 11 miles

Another fairly easy day today. Not as sunny as yesterday, but another beautiful day with no rain. Walked along the Swale valley for a bit and through the villages of Marrick and Marske as well as through Whitcliffe Wood. Today's scenery looked a lot like what we have in our native New Brunswick. We had dinner last night in Reeth with Rachel and David (father and daughter walkers who are great fun). We were sad to learn from them that our friend Shaun's knees gave out and he was forced to suspend his C2C walk. We know how disappointed he must have been.
We are now in the larger town of Richmond at the public library after visiting the Market Place, Richmond Castle and Georgian Theatre Royal. We will be in bed early tonight since we have a long day tomorrow - 23 miles. What a way to celebrate the day of our silver anniversary!

Note to Shaun: Sorry to hear the news. We had hoped that you had taken the valley route to Reeth instead of the high level. Looking forward to seeing you at the pub in High Hawsker on Saturday.

Wow guys! We just sat down and went through all of your posts. The scenery is magnificent even when it appears to be overcast. This looks like a true adventure. Hope you are not too soggy! It is great to be able to see your journey as it unfolds. We are cheering you on from Edmonton. Congratulations on your 25th anniversary!! Did I read that 23 miles tomorrow correctly? You both must have bodies of steel. All the best. Looking forward to the rest of your hilites. Love from Maureen, Don, Brandon, and Tanner.

Hi Francine and Peter,
Happy anniversary! Have a wonderful day today (23 miles though ... my feet are screaming in sympathy!)!
Michelle and I are chained to our desks again, but at least the weather has improved so we have something nice to look at when we look out of the window ...
Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye in Kirkby Stephen, but I'll be following your journey online and breathe fresh air vicariously.
Let us know if you'd like to meet up for a coffee when you are in London (although we'll completely understand if you haven't got time and/or inclination!).
Enjoy your big day!
Annikki

PS Shaun, sorry to hear about your knee! Take it easy!

Wow, your good friend Andy put me onto this site and I have spent the last half hour or so going through all of the posts. I am impressed at your tenacity and amazed at the beauty. Thank you for sharing this with us, and I will be following the remainder of your journey. Remember this little saying if and when you get tired "A journey of a thousnad miles starts with a single footstep."

Hello Francine and Peter,
From your photos, it looks like you are having a wonderful "walk". With only two more days left are you going to make it to Robin Hood's Bay with feet intact? Will look forward to hearing more detail when you return.
Happy Anniversary.
