SWCP - Day 1 - Port Isaac to Padstow - 12+ miles - 07 July 2015

We woke up this morning to pouring rain, but by the time we finished our tasty Cornish breakfast, the rain had stopped and the skies eventually cleared. We had a warm sunny day for the most part. This day was termed “challenging” by our guidebook and it certainly was that. Up and down steep stairs going from cliff top to beach level and back again several times. The scenery was spectacular and Peter had a field day with his camera. We diverted off the path for a little ways to visit the 12th century church of St Enodoc. It was found half-buried in the sand and at some point and was restored in the 1860s.  At Rock, we boarded a small ferry across the Camel River (not a short-cut but part of the path!) to the village of Padstow. We have dinner reservations at Rick Stein’s “The Seafood Restaurant”. Although we had never heard of him before, seems that he has quite the following. When we booked it 3 months ago, we were only able to get in at 9:30 pm on a Tuesday evening! We are staying at 50 Church Street B&B and Janet is wonderful. Every detail has been thought of and taken care of. We are tired but happy campers after our first day.
